When you’re working on obtaining the best oral health possible, you’re likely concerned with important things like the type of toothpaste you use, flossing daily, and making sure you brush your teeth for a full two minutes twice daily.

However, one thing that’s often overlooked is the need to use the right type of toothbrush.

Let’s look at why that matters.

Does it really make a difference?

You may not think so, but our team here at Crozet Dentist in Charlottesville, Virginia, can vouch for the fact that a good toothbrush really does make a difference. One that’s the right size, with the correct bristle stiffness, will more effectively clean the harder-to-reach areas of your mouth.

What kind should I use?

Ideally, you should use an electric toothbrush with a revolving circular head. These are very similar to the brushes we use here at our office, and they do a great job of cleaning the back of your mouth – which is consistently the hardest place to properly clean.

These types of brushes do a great job of removing plaque as well, as they’re more effective at cleaning in between teeth and around the gum line. That doesn’t mean you can get away with not flossing – it just makes your flossing that much more effective.

At the end of the day, the type of toothbrush you use may not seem like a big deal to your oral health. However, we can vouch for the fact that paying attention to it will help. If you have any questions, call us today at 434-218-7072.
